On 6-9-96 Marcus was blessed with an opportunity to play drums with a jazz legend named Lionel Hampton. Unfortunately, there was a great tragedy that happened that very same day. Both of Marcus' parents were murdered. His mom was stabbed to death by his biological dad and later on that day police got a call about a gas station being held up. After searching for a while cops finally found an individual who fit the description and proceeded to pursue... There was a car chase that ended on the freeway with the cops trying to arrest the individual which happen to be Marcus' dad... After resisting arrest, his dad attacked the two police officers, jumped in their squadcar and attempted to run them over. He was then shot to death. Police later found out that the same man they had shot to death was the same man wanted for the murder of Yolanda.
Marcus suffered a great loss. He lost his major support system. His mother was the one who encouraged him to excel in everything he did, especially his music. What Marcus didn't know was that he was about to gain a powerful connection and new support system from him meeting Bill Cosby.
That following weekend, the Washington Preparatory Jazz Assembly was scheduled to open up for the Playboy Jazz Festival which Bill Cosby hosted. Marcus was the drummer for the Washington Prep band. In the midst of the funeral preparations Marcus still felt a strong sense of responsibility and commitment to his fellow band members. He still attended rehearsal and went on to play drums. Mr. Cosby heard Marcus' story and was so touched that he had to meet him for himself. The conversation they had that day planted a seed that would later blossom into many new opportunities and a friendship that would last for years to come.
After graduating from highschool Marcus met a young man named Randy who was also a student at Washington Prep. Randy, aka Rem, is a very talented writer, musical artist, and entrepreneur. Randy expressed his sympathy towards Marcus concerning his parents tragic end. He also shared that he enjoyed hearing Marcus play the drums. They had a mutual respect for each other's musical abilities. Marcus ended up going to Randy's father's studio, who he affectionately call "Pops". It was at this studio that Randy introduced Marcus to his brother Ricky. Ricky connected with Marcus instantly and eventually shared his knowledge on how to compose music on a MPC 60. In return Marcus showed Ricky different off timing type drum patterns. Today Ricky is known as "Ricc Rude", a grammy nominated producer.
Over the years Marcus experienced a lot of moments that ended up being a learning lesson for optimistic self development. Two amazing experiences Marcus holds dear to his soul is the birth of his daughter and son. During this time Marcus connected deeper with his purpose and started to understand to respect the skills, talents, and spiritual gifts he is privileged to be one with and what they were meant to be used for. So when offered different co-production deals with well known artists, he gracefully declined. He made up his mind not to do music or business with anyone who did not promote a positive message within the entertainment industry. Instead, he sacrificed tangible comfortable short-term options in society and decided to wait on his time to be guided towards a project involving like-minded individuals who desire to put out a positive messages as well...
